DFI day 4 Workflow

Kia Ora, I found today to be action-packed and gained a lot of new knowledge in Google Sheets. In terms of the Manaiakalani Kaupapa which focussed on sharing knowledge and thoughts. It was interesting to step back and think about sharing prior to the digital age and how much easier it has become with the advent of electronics. Care is required to ensure all of us including our learners are able to share valid and meaningful information. A key role of this course and the Manaiakalani approach is to enable our learners to do this capably whilst choosing appropriate content and reason for sharing.

I have been using Survey Monkey for a number of years so it was really neat to explore Google forms which will be of great use with my staff/ students and families. I was able to create the following survey during our time together today (it does need tweaking a bit further):

Staff form

We spent some time looking at maps and it was great to see some of the imaginative ways they had been used as well as hear some of the groups ideas for holidays!

Our look at Google sheets was again valuable. Historically I have used Excel so again it was nice to have the chance to explore and learn some new shortcuts. The data manipulation tips were well received and I particularly enjoyed my new ability with the ability to use conditional formatting to highlight various scores.

We again used sheets to analyse our students Blog posts and this is an area I will be looking to exploit. Here is my example:

  1. Kia ora Ian,
I'm glad that there were so many aspects of the day that really connected with you last week. Forms and sheets are two really powerful tools and I love the integration between the two.
